LE DUCHE DE BRABANT

L' abbaye celebre de Nivelles a ete mise sous le controle des comtes

de Louvain-Bruxelles vers l' an 1000.

Le Duche du Brabant, fonde de facto en 1106 a connu sa periode

la plus importante pendant le 14ieme, le 15ieme et le 16ieme siecle.

Deja en 1288 le duc de Brabant Jean I avait obtenu le duche de Limbourg.

Le 13ieme siecle, c' est le debut de la democratie brabanconne :

le Conseil de Cortenberg, la Joyeuse Entree, etc.

Un duc de Brabant-Bourgogne a fonde l' universite de Louvain

au 15ieme siecle.

Le port brabancon d' Anvers est devenu le port le plus important

de l' Europe du Nord au 16ieme siecle.

LA PROVINCE DU BRABANT

Le Duche de Brabant, envahi a la fin du 18ieme siecle par les Francais,

a trouve un nouveau futur en 1815. Le roi des Pays-Bas a cree alors

la province du Brabant Septentrional, la province d' Anvers et la

province du Brabant Meridional.

Depuis 1995, la province du Brabant Meridional ou la province de Brabant

a ete coupee en trois parties : la province du Brabant Flamand, Bruxelles

et la province du Brabant Wallon.
